On New Year’s Eve 2021, TV icon Betty White passed away, just a few days shy of her 100th birthday. Her death hit a lot of people hard—especially those who were planning centennial celebrations, like downtown bar Angel Share HTX.
Since opening up a couple years ago, Angel Share has shown a soft spot for the sitcom/game show veteran whose fanbase, especially in her later years, reached from young kids to senior citizens. (Remember when people on Facebook rallied to have her host Saturday Night Live?) "We celebrate anybody that makes a difference in the world, and brings good vibes their way," says owner/operator Mary Ellen Angel.
"Betty White has always been somebody that we've had a picture of on our back wall, just because she's awesome."
Angel Share isn't the only Houston watering hole with White artwork. Eureka Heights Brew Co. also has a framed photo of White, whom they've named "unofficial official ambassador." Eureka has been throwing birthday parties for White since 2018. "We invited her every single year, but she was kind and declined," says events manager Evan Camp. "We never expected her to come, but we always did it in good faith.
