In an exciting development for fans of Patricia Cornwell's Kay Scarpetta book series, it has been revealed that a TV adaptation starring Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis is in the works. The series is expected to receive a two-season straight-to-series order from Prime Video, with each season consisting of eight episodes.
Kidman, an Oscar-winning actress, will not only star as the title character, Kay Scarpetta, but also serve as an executive producer through her production company Blossom Films. Curtis, an Oscar nominee, will play Kay's sister, Dorothy, who is the mother of Lucy Farinelli, a recurring character in the book series.
The project is being produced by Amazon Studios and Blumhouse Television, with Jason Blum, Chris McCumber, Jeremy Gold, and Chris Dickie from Blumhouse serving as executive producers alongside Curtis, Kidman, and Per Saari.
The idea for the TV series came about through Curtis' first-look deal with Blumhouse and her personal connection with Cornwell. As a fan of Cornwell's work, Curtis has regularly hosted conversations with the author, who is known for being protective of her creations.
The Kay Scarpetta book series, which spans 26 books starting with "Postmortem" in 1990, has previously seen attempts at movie adaptations that didn't come to fruition.
