Avie Lee Parton was the mother of country music legend Dolly Parton. She raised 12 children with her husband in Tennessee, taking care of their emotional and physical needs. Avie Lee was known for her handmade gifts, including a winter coat made from scraps of fabric which inspired Dolly's famous song "Coat of Many Colors." Dolly's very first song, "Little Tiny Tasseltop," was also inspired by a handmade gift from her mother, a corncob doll. Avie Lee's simple gifts taught Dolly the value of appreciating even the smallest blessings. Despite becoming a major success, Dolly never forgot her mother's love and repaid her by giving her the money for a mink coat.
