Her career began with songs written for other artists before becoming a hit in 1966 with "Dumb Blonde" and catching the attention of Porter Wagoner. After five years of a tumultuous partnership, Dolly left, but not before writing "I Will Always Love You" as a break-up song. Whitney Houston's 1992 Grammy-winning megahit was just a cover version of Dolly's original.
